UNIT 1

SELF-LEADERSHIP

Self-leadership, is having a developed sense of who you are, what you can do, where you are going coupled with the ability to intentionally influence your thinking, communication, emotions/feelings, behaviour and actions on the way to getting there. In simple terms it is the process by which you influence yourself to achieve your objectives. By taking six (6) actions, you can improve your self-leadership capability.

UNIT 2

DILIGENCE

The BIG misconception is that diligence = (just) hard work. Hard work simply means working hard; while diligence is working hard in the right direction. Diligence invests time, thought, and energy into a task and diligent individuals realise that what they get out of something depends upon what they are willing to put into it. What you choose to work on, and who you choose to work with, are far more important than how hard you work. By taking certain actions you can improve your diligence and stop procrastinating.

UNIT 3

RESILIENCE

Life is hard. There, we said it. There are ups and downs, good and bad in every- one’s lives. Some days are good, some days not so much. Resilience is our ability to adapt and bounce back when things don't go as planned or when we are faced with difficulty, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress. Don't let your failures derail your dreams. Develop the ability to adapt and grow following adversity.

UNIT 4

THE GROWTH MINDSET

What if your true (learning) potential was unknown, even unknowable, at best? What if it were impossible to foresee what you could accomplish with a few years of passion, grind, and training? According to Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, this isn’t some hypothetical situation, dependent on any manner of factors from genes to environment. It’s a mindset and it’s one you can cultivate at any point in life.

UNIT 5

COMMUNICATION & NETWORKING

Effective communication and networking skills are essential to your success in the world of work and business. To be more specific, to be successful in the world of work and business you need to: develop positive interpersonal; demonstrate appropriate business and personal etiquette; exhibit a positive attitude; demonstrate effective verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic communication skills; apply effective listening skills, and; understanding the importance of networking.

UNIT 6

TEAMWORK & COLLABORATION

Never underestimate the incredible value of team players. They can add as much value to their team as those with professional or technical skills. This is because they empower others to function at their very best, enabling deadlines to be met, goals to be reached and visons to be realised. Being a good team player is essential and you need to follow specific guidelines and methods to help develop your team player skills.

UNIT 7

INNOVATION & CREATIVITY

Research indicate that we do not need to try to create innovative characteristics; rather, we simply need to show individuals how to cultivate innovative thought by: 1) fully utilizing the traits they already possess, 2) awakening dormant traits, and 3) understanding the importance of contextual factors, or the innovation environment. In doing so we allow individuals to improve their innovative and creative thinking. The first step in this process is to analyse the characteristics, traits, and thought processes that innovative individuals possess.

UNIT 8

PROBLEM-SOLVING & CRITICAL THINKING

Problem solving is a complicated science. Not only are problems multifaceted, but they often involve different personalities, levels of authority and group dynamics. It is essential to be exposed to best practices, barriers and techniques when it comes to problem-solving and critical thinking. Experts agree that the first step in solving a problem is defining the problem. Without a clear articulation of the problem, it is impossible to analyze all the key factors and actors, generate possible solutions, and then evaluate them to pick the best option.

UNIT 9

DIGITAL LITERACY

Digital literacy skills are extremely important to acquire and continuously work on in the modern world as the Internet and digital technology is slowly becoming an essential component of many people’s lives. You need to be proactive in your learning of digital technologies, and keep up with digital trends. Think of learning digital literacy as an opportunity for learning how to make your life easier, rather than something you need to struggle through to keep up with.

UNIT 10

THE BRAND CALLED 'YOU'

Today you have to be your own brand. Tom Peters refer to this as being the CEO of Me Inc. It’s time for you to take a lesson from the big brands, a lesson that’s true for anyone who’s interested in what it takes to stand out and prosper in the new world of work. Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business you happen to be in, you need to understand the importance of branding. You are a brand. You carry your brand with you. You represent your own brand. Your focus should be always on making the brand YOU bigger, more valuable and more visible to the world.

INTERCULTURAL INTELLIGENCE

Cultural intelligence is the ability for people, organisations, and businesses to relate to culturally diverse situations and work effectively in them. It is important for businesses to know how well you interact and communicate with people different than yourself. Learn best practices and techniques in this regard.
